Intro.

Brew is a newsletter and a personal project by Bruna Leão, born out of a deep need to challenge the clichés of marketing and design discourse. More than just another industry newsletter, Brew serves as a space for critical reflection, intelligent provocation, and genuine insights into branding, creativity, and consumer culture.

The name Brew comes from my nickname, Bru. It’s a playful twist, resonating phonetically while carrying a deeper meaning. The word brew refers to the act of crafting something with intention—like brewing coffee, beer, or even ideas. And that’s exactly what Brew is about: slow-crafted, well-thought-out content that encourages you to rethink the market—and maybe even your own brand.

Concept.

The visual identity of Brew is an extension of its essence—raw, expressive, and intentionally imperfect. It merges simple illustration with vintage photography, creating a dynamic interplay between past and present, structure and spontaneity.

At its core, the style is sketchy and collage-based, embracing loose, expressive hand-drawn lines that mimic the traditional nanquim technique. Predominantly black and white, the visuals come to life through intentional pops of color, highlighting key elements and guiding the viewer’s eye.

Since Brew is a personal project, the identity reflects that intimacy—it feels handcrafted, almost as if each piece was made directly by hand, carrying the marks of the creative process. It’s not polished; it’s thoughtful but unrefined, deliberate yet organic—just like the ideas Brew brings to the table.

The Creator seeks originality, rejects cookie-cutter formulas, and transforms ideas into something meaningful. Its mission is to create, reinvent, and inspire.

The Jester challenges the status quo with wit and sarcasm, exposing truths in a light yet provocative way. Its mission is to question, deconstruct, and entertain.

We create while we disrupt. Brew merges the Jester’s sharp criticism with the Creator’s inventiveness, balancing humor and depth, provocation and innovation.

Typography.

The typography in Brew is a deliberate choice that reinforces its handcrafted, expressive identity.

Beth Ellen Regular is used in both the logo and newsletter sections, enhancing Brew’s raw and personal aesthetic. It makes the brand feel more like a journal of bold, honest thoughts than a polished corporate piece.

Provicali is selected for social media titles, ensuring impact and readability in fast-scrolling feeds.

Pausa is a versatile typeface primarily used for subtitles and body text, occasionally appearing in titles f or variation and balance.

Beth Ellen plays a more subtle role in social media, appearing in small text snippets that add a personal and relaxed feel. This careful distribution ensures that Brew remains visually cohesive while adapting to different mediums without losing its rebellious, handcrafted essence.

Color Palette.

Brew’s color palette is primarily monochromatic, reinforcing its raw and handcrafted feel. Black and white dominate, creating a bold contrast, while selective pops of color highlight key elements, adding energy and visual tension where needed.
